Re: VRamSizeTest v1.0

Better late than never, so I'll jump in here:

Win10, Nvidia Gtx 980 TI, 355.82

DX9: 4064
DX11: 30528

So yup, my VRAM is utterly useless for DX9.

Re: VRamSizeTest v1.0

I've been reading through this and wonder which # should I use for FO4.

I don't use any crapware, I keep my anti-virus off when i'm not on the internet as well.

DX9 I get 4032
DX11 I get 30720-30524

I ran the tests with my browser open, since I was reading the posts at the time. I had my anti-virus off. I have only one drive on my pc and my specs are below.

GTX 750 Ti - 353 Drivers
8gb Ram
Asus Z97-K
I7-4790
1 TB HDD 7200RPM
Windows 8.1 Pro

Re: VRamSizeTest v1.0

You need to use dx11 version size, but in this specific case free space on the system disk or maximal swap file size is added to result, so for good performance do not set anything above vram+ram minus amount of memory used by os and other applications with Fallout 4 itself. Unfortunately Fallout 4 preallocate a lot of memory.

Ok I will do exactly that, thank you as always Boris.

Re: VRamSizeTest v1.0

Hey Boris,

I've been using your tool for a relatively long time, because of playing with Skyrim and using STEP as a main rule, and its VRAM suggestion. In connection with Skyrim we(STEP members) use a recommendation that:

- Windows 7: VRamSizeTest - 170MB
- Windows 8: VRamSizeTest - 370MB

(but of course DX9 version of your tool)

In connection with Fallout 4 also recommended not to set the exact value what VRamSizeTest give?
In my case VideoMemorySizeMb=27072. Can I just use that value or should I reduce that value, like the Skyrim formula?

Thank you!

Re: VRamSizeTest v1.0

VideoMemorySizeMb must be not bigger than vram+ram minus ram used os and other applications, minus used by the game. Anything above that means stuttering and delays because of disk i/o.

Re: VRamSizeTest v1.0

Yes, I knew that one and just now seen that video from tapioks:

Fallout 4 - ENBoost - Determine the Optimal VRAM Settings....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ro20kE9X-eY

Really like his ENB related videos.

According to his explanation I used that formula:

4GB VRAM + 32GB RAM - 6GB RAM = 30000

I have:

Kingston HyperX Fury Blue 32GB 1600MHz DDR3
MSI GTX 980 GAMING 4G
Windows 7 Prof SP1 x64

Re: VRamSizeTest v1.0

FYI - if using a laptop with NVIDIA Optimus on it, or probably any system with multiple videocards (i.e. integrated and discrete), the VRamSizeTest tool will not work correctly by default. You have to force the discrete videocard to be used for the program.

In my case, I went to the NVIDIA Control Panel, browsed to the "VRamSizeDX9.exe" (this is the one I needed), and selected the "High-Performance NVIDIA Processor" from the dropdown box. Exit out, and let it apply the settings at the prompt, then voila!

- Windows 8.1 Home
- Intel HD Graphics 4600 (Integrated)
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970m (3GB Discrete)
- 16GB RAM

VRamSizeDX9.exe results -

Before = 1888 MB ( <--- It is recognizing the Intel 4600. )
After = 4064 MB ( <--- It recognized the NVIDIA 970m! Still constrained by the Windows 8.1/10 cap, but a way more realistic result. )

This is probably obvious to a lot of people, but it definitely wasn't obvious to me. I hope this helps someone else with the same issue.

Re: VRamSizeTest v1.0

I just have a quick question about a problem I've been have for a while now and I just can't seem to find an answer on the internet. For some reason, Skyrim is not recognizing my system memory properly. When I run the vramsizetest for DX9 from enbdev.com it says I only have 2144 Mb available when I have a 3072 Mb VRAM (GTX 970 M) and 8192 Mb of physical RAM, for a total of 11,264 Mb of total graphics memory.

I ran the test about a year ago on the same computer, after I had upgraded to win10 via the free upgrade back in 2015, and it read that I have the max of 4064 Mb available for DX9. Since then I have reinstalled win10 from scratch and all the programs I had previously, including the latest DirectX from 2011, and I just tried also installing the older DirectX (June 2010) version and it still does't work.

I have the current Nvidia Driver for my specific card and the latest version of win10 and the proper version of my intel graphics driver for my i7core 4720 processor. Finally, I also have installed the Nvidia driver hotfix for win10 64bit. Still nothing.

Please if you have any advice or know how to help I would be extremely grateful.

Re: VRamSizeTest v1.0

It's probably intel gpu memory measured first of all, i have no idea how to bypass it, because it seems always primary device and switched by Optimus automatically only.
