Re: AMD Ryzen or Intel?

Got some more data. When Ryzen has 3200Mhz RAM, it outperforms Sandybridge at draw calls. The caveat is that the application must only use 1 core cluster (CCX). Otherwise, performance is on par with Core 2.

The user with the Ryzen + Fury X, got the same score as the Ryzen [2 CCX] + Fury Nano, when using one core from each CCX.

It gets worse. Ryzen 5 (6 core and 4 core) will cut down each CCX. So the 6 core Ryzen is 3+3 cores, and 4 core Ryzen is 2+2. Ideal is 4+2 for 6 core, and 4+0 for the 4 core. But no, AMD is being cheap.

Re: AMD Ryzen or Intel?

90.48 FPS - SLUS 20672 - AMD Ryzen 7 1700 - OC 4GHz (SMT ON)
This is posted on PCSX2 emulation forum http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-CPU-Benc ... d-on-FFX-2 as performance result of benchmark. Actually it says a lot about Ryzen CPU, of course it's overclocked which is not good, but at least equal or close to:
93.84 FPS - SLUS 20672 - Intel Core i5 2500K - 4.7 GHz OC - Rezard
90.15 FPS - SLUS 20672 - Intel Core i5 3570K - 4.5 GHz OC - Teufel9000 - CPU-Z
90.14 FPS - SLUS 20672 - Intel Core i7 2600K - 4.7 GHz OC - Hambone07si (non-member in this forum)
88.24 FPS - SLUS 20672 - Intel Core i7 4770K - 3.5 GHz Stock (3.8 GHz w/TB)
while older amd cpu are:
76.31 FPS - SLUS 20672 - AMD FX-6300 - 5.2 GHz OC (2 Modules)
72.07 FPS - SLUS 20672 - AMD FX-8350 - 4.7 GHz OC
69.22 FPS - SLUS 20672 - AMD FX-4300 - 4.62 GHz OC
65.04 FPS - SLUS 20672 - AMD FX-6100 - 5.0 GHz OC
63.24 FPS - SLUS 20672 - AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE
Definetly not worth to buy Rizen for this emulator, because it should be very much overclocked, while Haswell (more recent maybe better, don't know) with overclocking is 110+ fps.

Re: AMD Ryzen or Intel?

Haswell brought something that made performance jump up by around 35-40% in emulators. Performance in games and such over Ivybridge was marginal, but Dolphin and PCSX2 got a big bump. Skylake also does a bit better, I think the benchmarks were 15% better than Haswell, in Dolphin, at the same clocks.

It's sad that Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 3 aren't true 6/4 core CPUs. They're 3+3 and 2+2 cores; harvested 4+4 CPUs with a few of the cores disabled.

Edit: Results from Anandtech's Dolphin benchmark:

Re: AMD Ryzen or Intel?

I think Haswell is so faster for emulators because cache speed is doubled.
